Unfortunately, I don't have $950,000 to spare at the moment. I'll let you know if my situation improves. Sometime during the mid-1980's I was following Congresswoman Pat Schroeder around Capitol Hill for a Cosmopolitan magazine profile. She dropped by the McNeil-Lehrer Newshour to debate on air a young lawyer representing the U.S. Chamber of Commerce about some issue or other: that was my first and only encounter with Virginia Lamp, the future Ginni Thomas.

I didn’t know Curtis Sliwa is a “right-winger.” Booooo!

“The group was greeted on Ditmars Boulevard in Astoria – it’s a conservative red enclave that voted for Sliwa in an overwhelmingly blue metropolis -- with appreciation, nostalgia and complaints about the cops. “Are you Guardian Angels?” a passerby asked. “Why don’t you come to East Elmhurst? There was a stabbing. Why do we have cops? The left wing progressive agenda has ruined this country.’”

I was born in 1953, the 1960’s was prime-time for me. The decade of the 60’s was the best attempt the country had ever made at righting the wrongs of slavery, injustice and poverty. And yet, in 2022, we have Astoria, Sliwa and a MAGA passerby. I have an idea, The Guardian Angels should guard us from right-wing-lunacy; THAT is a noble cause.

Best lines:

"The journalist had this selfless idea that I join her on patrol with the Guardian Angels."

"the nom de guerre of the Guardian Angel’s Queens patrol leader."

"the resulting story allowed me to lay flimsy claim to being an investigative journalist."

"There seemed an element of melancholy to the enterprise, the old fire replaced by an impulse towards public service and a desire for relevance."

***Ralph here is what you need to "juice" your Substack numbers: A year ago I purchased the rights to a web address, www.crazyginnianduncletom.com I'd known about Ginni and Clarence Thomas and their destructive relationship on our democracy, but reading a New Yorker article about "Crazy" Ginni and her crazy family made me act. And I was rewarded with Crazy Ginni, the insurrectionist, and Uncle Tom, trying desperately to restore Trump from the bench. The website, I figured, could be a rallying point on social media for honest citizens to fight back and fix the badly out-of-control Supreme Court. And yesterday Uncle Tom was up to his old tricks, unilaterally placing a "stay" on Lindsey Graham's lawful subpoena. The perfect time for MSNBC and other outlets to quote commentary from www.crazyginnianduncletom.com That is if the site was up and online! Imagine how that would strike right to the core for the Roberts' Court and to Clarence Thomas, in particular.

The website is a ".com" and is up for auction; I placed the ridiculous number of $950,000 as the opening bid, in order to discourage Republican moneyed-groups from buying it for deep-sixing. I would give the site away for the right organization to develop and promote. You could be the man to help??!!
